All of us fanboys know that David Goyer, Christopher Nolan, and Jonathan Nolan’s reboot of the Dark Knight storyline has borrowed heavily from the best Batman graphic novels, Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, Alan Moore’s The Killing Joke, and with this new Batman epic, Knightfall. However, what’s unclear is whether Selina Kyle really fits in with the material.
Of course, castingfrequent Nolan’s actor Tom Hardy as Bane was a questionable, but nice add-on, what makes Goyer and the Nolan Bros. think that he can bring Hathaway’s seline kyle into the Dark Knight world?
While I think we can all agree that Batman Returns was epic as fuark, I think Tim Burton did a great job of bringing both Penguin and Catwoman to the big screen. The backstory with Michelle Pfeiffer brings a crazy, loner personality to the mix while making (obviously) Selina Kyle an awesome anti-hero/romantic interest for Bruce Wayne. Will Nolan bring Hathaway in as Batman’s love interest ( which stems from the comics) even as he’s aged Christian Bale a la The Dark Knight Returns?
To be honest, I’m not even scared. Essentially every move that Nolan’s made with the franchise has been fantabolous. He cast Ledger, Michael Caine, Oldmans Commissioner, and Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent. As long as he doesn’t have a ridiculous, creature named Jar Jar Binks turn up, I dont care.
While The Dark Knights Rises is risking a lot by expanding the recreated mythos with 2 villains, I know this movie will not end up like the Riddler/ Two-Face combo menace that was Batman Forever. The real question now, is which Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol-esque movie is going to feature the next IMAX filmed trailer?
